Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese Medicine that dates back over 2000 years. This vast body of ancient knowledge is used to look at the whole person (mind, body and spirit) and address both root causes and symptoms of your conditions.

Acupuncture stimulates the balance and flow of Qi energy to help the healing process. It is used to balance energy and encourage healing. It involves the insertion of very fine needles through the skin into acupuncture points on the body.

Classical Acupuncture is a diagnostic and treatment system based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and the meridian system. The goal is to balance the flow of Qi (pronounced chee). Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that when the body is healthy, Qi can flow smoothly through the meridian system (conceptual network of pathways throughout the entire body). When the flow of qi is deficient or obstructed it is believed to be the cause of the imbalance or condition. TCM assists in conditions such as:

  • Immune system (ie. Colds/flus)
  • Gynecological/Hormonal disorders (ie. PMS/menstrual difficulties)
  • Digestive & skin disorders (ie. IBS, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, bloating, rashes)
  • Neurological disorders (ie. Sciatica, carpal tunnel, migraines)
  • musculoskeletal system
  • Respiratory disorders (ie. Sinusitis, Asthma, colds/flus)
  • Psychological disorders (ie. depression, anxiety)
  • Energy (ie. Fatigue, insomnia)
  • Stress

Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment with very few adverse effects and complications. Your practitioner will discuss risks and benefits with you. Sterile and disposable needles are used and discarded safely.

Yoga, meaning union, is a way of life that has been practiced for thousands of years.

The teacher, Patanjali (lived around 200-400AD) outlined the 8 limbs of yoga that served as a philosophical guidebook to consider helping us on our path towards physical, emotional and spiritual health.

  1. Yamas (social ethics)
  2. Niyamas (Personal Discipline)
  3. Asanas (Physical postures)
  4. Pranayama (Breathing)
  5. Pratyahara (Control of senses)
  6. Dharana (Focus/Concentration)
  7. Dhyana (Meditation)
  8. Samadhi (Pure Awareness/Enlightenment)

The physical practice of Asanas and meditation are common practices of yoga. Yoga as a practice helps us to live in our natural state.
